A frightening moment ending with a remarkable display of sportsmanship.
Tulsa’s Isaiah Jarvis was hit in the head with a baseball Tuesday in the finals of the Southwest Region of the Little League World Series. Whichever team won this game would advance to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Jarvis walked to first base but didn’t stop there. He continued on to the mound to console the pitcher who had hit him.
Even Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum posted about the touching moment, reiterating what an ESPN commentator said.
Texas East pitcher Kaiden Shelton threw an 0-2 fastball that struck Oklahoma’s Jarvis in the head. The pitch knocked Jarvis’ helmet off and he immediately fell to the ground, clutching his head.
Shelton’s teammates and a coach joined Jarvis at the mound to comfort Shelton as well. The moment drew a standing ovation from the Waco, Texas crowd.
After play resumed, Oklahoma went on to score two more runs in the inning to take a 4-3 lead. But the Texas East team ultimately secured a 9-4 win and advanced to the LLWS in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
While Jarvis’ season is over, his moment Tuesday will stand out as one of the best of the Little League season.
