The Federal Trade Commission will be sending payments to Fortnite players who were charged for unwanted purchases, the federal agency said.

More than $72 million will be split among 629,344 payments to gamers by the FTC.

The date that the payments will be sent hasn’t been released, as the agency said it is still reviewing claims that were filed after Oct. 8.

The money comes from a settlement agreed upon by Epic Games, the parent company of the popular game. The FTC said Epic charged for unwanted purchases, frequently made by children without parents’ permission. The company also blocked some users who disputed the charges.

In addition to the financial settlement, Epic Games is required to get positive consent for purchases and is not allowed to block players from their accounts if they dispute a charge.

To be eligible for a payment, you only have to meet one of the following contingencies:

  • You were charged in-game currency on a purchase you didn’t want from January 2017 to September 2022.
  • Your child charged your credit card without your knowledge from January 2017 to November 2018.
  • Your account was locked after disputing a charge from January 2017 to September 2022.

It is not too late to file a claim. The deadline is Jan. 10. Click here to file. You must be 18 years old to file a claim, otherwise, a parent or guardian can file on your behalf, the FTC said.
