LARGO, Fla. — A teenage babysitter in Florida is accused of filming herself placing a lit marijuana joint in the mouth of a 1-year-old child, authorities said.
According to a news release from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the 17-year-old faces one count of felony child abuse.
Deputies said that on Thursday, the babysitter was watching her friend’s daughter in a residence located in an unincorporated area of Largo.
The teen and the victim’s 16-year-old mother are friends, WTVT reported.
According to the sheriff’s office, the babysitter filmed herself putting the marijuana cigarette in the child’s mouth. The toddler then inhaled and the “embers begin to grow brighter,” the news release stated.
The babysitter then removed the joint from the child’s mouth and smoked it, the sheriff’s office said.
The suspect originally denied putting the joint in the child’s mouth. She did, however, allegedly admit to smoking near the child, deputies said.
The teen was transported to the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center, according to the sheriff’s office.
