TULSA, Okla. — During the winter season, the City of Tulsa is offering free firewood to residents at the City’s Mulch Site.
“The free firewood program is part of our efforts to reuse natural resources and provide valuable services to the community,” said Philip Eakes, the Refuse and Recycling Manager for the City of Tulsa. “Not only does it help residents save money on heating costs, but it also reduces waste by repurposing trees that would otherwise be disposed of.”
The firewood given to residents comes from damaged and fallen trees that have been removed by the city.
In order to receive firewood, you need to bring a driver’s license, a current city utility bill from the municipality you live in, or a manifest form from your community. Residents have to load their own firewood and should bring their own tools and containers to haul the wood.
Those living in Broken Arrow, Bixby and Jenks are also able to use this service. The firewood will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The City stresses that because the firewood is untreated, it could possibly contain bark, dirt or other natural debris. They ask residents make sure the firewood is dried properly before using it inside to minimize smoke hazards.
The firewood can be picked up at the Tulsa Mulch Site at 2100 North 145th East Avenue.
The mulch site will be open Sunday-Tuesday and then Thursday-Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
